~ Eucalyptus ~

    Eucalyptus trees and shrubs are from the Myrtle family, the name is derived from the Greek word "EUCALYPTOS" meaning " Well Covered". There are about 300 types of eucalyptus, however most essential oils distilled from the EUCALYPTUS GLOBULUS also name the Australian’s Beloved Blue Gum. Others such as Eucalyptus Citriodora also known as Lemon Scented.

The eucalyptus globulus (Blue Gum) these leaves are long, bluish-green, creamy white flowers. The tree is native to Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Australia, California, Tasmania and China in which most eucalyptus oil is produced. While the eucalyptus Citriodora (Lemon Scented) leaves are oval, narrow and tapering mainly cultivated in China and Brazil.

~ Eucalyptus globulus ~

The main constituent of Eucalyptus globulus is 80% eucalyptol, amyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol various aldehydes, camphene, eudesmol, pinene and aromadendrene. This oil is extracted by steam distillation of the leaves and young twigs, the aroma is head-clearing and cooling.

Aromatherapy uses for Eucalyptus globulus: Blisters, burns, chickenpox, cold sores, cuts, insect bites and stings, arthritic pain, hay fever, colds and flu.

Eucalyptus globulus Aesthetic Blending: this variety of eucalyptus can be blend with Lavender, Frankincense, Thyme, Rosemary, Lemon, Marjoram, Myrrh, Pine, bergamot, cedarwood and Chamomile.

~ Eucalyptus Citriodora ~

The eucalyptus Citriodora (Lemon Scented) oil is a pale-yellow liquid with a strong citronella aroma and refreshing.

Aromatherapy uses for Eucalyptus Citriodora: insect repellent, bronchitis, throat infections, foot cuts, grazes and more.

Aromatherapy uses for Eucalyptus Citriodora: this type of eucalyptus is very strong and therefore does not blend well with other essences. However, it is acceptable when blended carefully with palmarosa, cypress, tea tree and geranium.

~ Suggestions ~


1.     Suggested for Chest rub, insomnia, flu or simply nose blocked! 

Regular inhalation of steam helps to clear the nasal passages and relieves excess sputum and irritants. This will eliminate some of the symptoms of allergies such as stuffy nose, sneezing and sore throat.


A. Pour boiling water into a large bowl.

B. Add three to four drops of essential oil according to taste and add 3 leaves of eucalyptus as well. (You may use Peppermint, Rosemary, or tea tree oil as well.)

C. Lean over the bowl and gently cover her head with a towel.

D. Breathe deeply 5-10 minutes of steam, followed by thorough wringing of the nose.

E. Repeat several times a day until you feel normal.



2.     Suggested steam: EUCALYPTUS GLOBULUS (BLUE GUM}

Hang it in the shower for natural aroma therapy. The steam will release beneficial oils

3.     Suggested massage or vaporising to ease breathing and fugitive the air: EUCALYPTUS GLOBULUS (BLUE GUM)  for acute bronchitis and catarrh –

25ml vegetable base oil

3 drops of lavender

5 drops of eucalyptus oil

4 drops of Myrrh

Eucalyptus can be use in several ways especially in massage to relieve pain in rheumatism, fibrositis, muscular aches.

Eucalyptus considered toxic in large amount, this oil MUST NEVER be taken internally as relatively can be fatal, especially to children.

Please do not use in bath, as Anecdotal evidence suggests that the oil can irritate skin if used in the bath.
